Adding Memory to rp2450

Well it is time to increase the memory in our HP-9000, rp2450. It has 4-512Mb memory sticks and 4 empty slots for more. I know they have to be installed as pairs.
Can I use a pair of 1 GB memory sticks or do I have to stay with 512s?

The only thing that always remain the same are the changes.

The answer is in this document.

http://docs.hp.com/hpux/hw/index.html#HP%209000%20rp2400%20Server%20%28A400%20and%20A500%29

I'd say yes, but you should verify.

Yes, you can mix RAM of different sizes as long as they are installed in the required pairs.

Re: Adding Memory to rp2450

This document has the configuration rules on page 125:

http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/2411/rp24xx_customer.pdf

"Memory Configuration Rules:
rp24xx servers have 8 slots (4 DIMM pairs) on the system board for memory DIMMs. These slots are numbered 1 through 8. The following rules govern the installation of memory DIMMs:
- Memory must be installed in DIMM pairs.
- The capacity of DIMMs within a pair must be the same.
- Install DIMMs with the greatest capacity in the lowest slot numbers.
- Install DIMMs in numerical order starting with slot 1 (1, 2, 3, etc.)"

So if you purchase 1GB DIMMs, install them in the #1 slots, move the smaller ones to higher slots.
