Any Performance issue to add new HDD
Hi,
We have HP9000 rx5670 Itanium2 1.5GHz (A9810A) 2 CPU 8GB RAM, internal 36GB (A7049A) 15Krpm HotPlug Ultra320 Disk (mirror)OS HP-UX 11i (11.23,v2)MCSG Cluster Server running Oracle 9i DB with 24x7x365 support contract for 3 years.
We need to add more internal Hard Disk (mirror) for increase swap space.
Is there any performance issue if we use 146GB (A7081AR)10Krpm HotPlug Ultra320 (mirror)?
Or we need to use 73GB 15Krpm internal HDD then what part number?
Thanks

Re: Any Performance issue to add new HDD
hi,
have u consider increasing memory instead. no doubt it cost more but an evaluation of the number of applications (no. of users) or databases (no. of instances) running in the servers will help ascertain how much exactly is needed?
btw, u did not seem to assign any points...
regards.

Hi
I agree with joseph, you could go for a memory increase unless you need more disk space for some other filesystem other thatn swap.
If you think this issues i resolved please assign points and close this thread.

Re: Any Performance issue to add new HDD
Hi,
Do you have a SAN array attached to this system?
Secondary swap does not need to reside on "local" disks.
Just setup more swap on external storage.
You can even set swap priority such that the faster drives can be used first....BUT if you're actually paging out it won't make much difference - performance will already be severely affected.
My $0.02,
Jeff
