Attention Button (Doorbell) for SD pci slots

Does the HP9000 SD32000 or SD64000 feature the Attention Button (doorbell) for powering on an i/o slot?

I've only found an nPars manual that mentions it for rp74-somthing and rp8400's.

Thanks,

Re: Attention Button (Doorbell) for SD pci slots

It's a feature of some servers like rp or rx 8xxx, 7xxx and 4xxx servers. There is a switch to release the card that gives a signal to power off/on the slot.

You have to use the olrad command or SAM on the SD - this is also more safe (for all servers), because SAM is checking if your card is redundant and could be removed without problems.

Hope this helps!

Re: Attention Button (Doorbell) for SD pci slots

This is maybe interesting for you:

look at page 88 in this document http://docs.hp.com/en/A9550-96001/A9950-96001_rp4410_rp4440_Maint.pdf

and you will see there is a manual switch to give the firmware the same command like you will do it with the olrad commands. For other servers with this features is the same, more or less.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info Torsten. Found out my domes don't have this feature... too bad, would've saved some downtime.

No, you can do an online addition, but the button is not there.

You need to use the olar/olrad commands or sam.

Hope this helps!

Re: Attention Button (Doorbell) for SD pci slots

yup, I agree.

A bit more detail... my problem came when working with an npar w/ a few vpars on it. When the npar is booted any open pci slot is left off. When someone later decided to add more i/o and create a new vpar there was no way to power on the slot(s) for the new vpar. Would have to add the slot to an existing vpar so we could olar (required outage) or bounce the npar after new i/o was added. Would've been able to avoid outage if doorbell was available to power on the slot w/out needing OS commands.

Re: Attention Button (Doorbell) for SD pci slots

If I understand right, you can use rad -i for the same functionality.
I guess it is more comfortable to run a command instead to open the server.

Hope this helps!
