Re: Attention Light on rp7410

Go into the GSP (or MP, or whatever they're calling it nowdays) and check the logs to see what it was complaining about. It may be something minor and just viewing the logs will stop the flashing. If not, you'll probably need to contact HP.

Re: Attention Light on rp7410

This means that there are entries in the GSP (Guardian Service Processor). This can be the result of hardware failure, but is mostly meaningless. The light will go off after you read the first log entry. But go ahead and scroll through it to see if anything significant has happened. From the console will start the GSP.

Re: Attention Light on rp7410

This machine has no dedicated console attached. Can I get the GSP via telnet?

Re: Attention Light on rp7410

Hi,
I have not tried it myself, but I found some info:
You can connect to the GSP using the customer LAN port by following this
procedure:
1) Add a route to the GSP from a system on the same subnet as the GSP, and
check that you can ping it:
- On a PC, start up a Command Prompt (DOS) window, and type:
c:\\> route add 192.168.1.1 pcIpAddress
c:\\> ping 192.168.1.1
- On an HPUX workstation or server, log in as root and type:
% /etc/route add 192.168.1.1 uxIpAddress
% /etc/ping 192.168.1.1

2) Use a PC or HPUX telnet program to telnet to the GSP. e.g.
% telnet 192.168.1.1

3) Reset the LAN parameters to their proper values using the LC command
from the command menu.

Note: the PC or HPUX system must be on the same subnet as the GSP. There must
not be two GSPs on the same subnet responding to the default IP address.

Please let us know how you get on !

Re: Attention Light on rp7410

Peter is correct about using the LAN interface. I've always found it easier to use the serial console instead. You need a RS232 cable from the nearest PC to the HP system, and a null modem as a minimum. Use hyperterm on the PC and set it for 9600, 8 bits, 1 stop bit, no parity. You should get the login prompt on the hyperterm session. Press to get the GSP login, followed by . Finally DI will display the console logs. The ? will get you a help screen thats pretty intuitive.
