Authorized reseller of broker for component upgrades on L1000?

Our business system is changing from an ISAM database to Oracle. The business system vendor recommends that we add a second 360Mhz processor, a mirrored pair of 18gb Disks and add three more 512MB memory modules to our L1000.

The cheapest quotes are from brokers, but HP resellers are implying that HP wonâ t give me support if I install these parts. When I went back to the brokers they told me that they never had any issues with their clients getting support from HP.

Where the resellers using scare tactics, or is there some truth to what they said?

Simply specify in your RFP that all parts must be acceptable for addition on an HP Support Contract.

Make it the brokers problem.

I know plenty of people that have purchased hardware from companies that would be described as brokers.

HP's supplier system is too complex for me to fully understand.

I've heard similar tales of dire consequences from my resellers lately. Supposedly, HP will only accept the used equipment onto contract after onsite verification and testing by HP - at your expense and possibly quite expensive. This has never been the case in the past and the brokers I've talked to recently assure me that it is not the case now. I would still consider using a broker for used equipment on the condition that said equipment has to be accepted by HP.

Actually, I should add that this has always been HP's policy - it's just rarely (if ever) been enforced.

I've done this quite often and never had a problem getting HP Support Agreements on the equipment. As noted, there has always been a policy that HP MR. Goodwrench will need to come out and inspect the equipment prior to the agreement going into effect but in my case that requirement has always been waived. Remember, service agreements are very profitable; they want your business. In all cases, my used-equipment dealers warrenty their components for 30 days and certify that all parts are available for HP Service Agreements. If they ain't, it's their problem. The 30 days gives you plenty of time to get the new equipment under HP maintenance.
