Boot from the HP-UX 11.0 Install DVD

I'm installing HP-UX 11.0 for my hp 9000 rp 3410 server that is a old server and already have OS before. now, i have to boot from the HP-UX install DVD but i don't know how to do so.
I've read installing guide book and it said that "Switch on the target computer and hold ESC for awhile ". But how could i do so because server haven't the directly connected keyboard to press ESC ???

I've tried by PC command from MP:MC promt, but nothing appeared on my console screen to show that my server is booting.

Please help me to boot my server from DVD.

Thanks you,
Regard,

Re: Boot from the HP-UX 11.0 Install DVD

Hello, Tamvnit.

Since you are going to reload the OS, it won't matter if you corrupt the existing one. So to make this easy, just unplug the power cords for about 30 seconds and then plug them back in. On the console, watch for your MP login screen and login normally, usually Admin/Admin. You will be at the MP Main Menu Screen with an MP> prompt. Type in CM and hit return, this will give you the Command Menu (CM>) prompt. Type in PC and hit return, then select ON. This will apply power to your server and start the boot process. Type in MA to return to the Main Menu, then type in CO to go to the Console screen. Carefully watch for activity on this screen, you will get nothing for a few minutes and then the Boot Control Handler screen will appear. You MUST hit a key within 10 seconds or the autoboot process will take over. Once you've hit a key and interrupted the boot process, type in SEA to Search for boot devices. One of these will be your DVD, assuming that you have the DVD in the drive. Type in BO and the P number to the left of the DVD and you will be booting from your DVD.

Re: Boot from the HP-UX 11.0 Install DVD

Note that the installation instructions for HP-UX 11.0 won't list rp3410 as supported system for that OS.
http://docs.hp.com/en/5990-6721/index.html

HP's web pages for rp3410 say it supports only HP-UX 11i v1 (that's 11.11) or above.
http://www.hp.com/products1/servers/rackoptimized/rp3400_series/index.html

rp3410 has PCI-X bus, which is unknown on HP-UX 11.00. So there is a good reason to believe that 11.00 will simply not run on a rp 3410. You must use at least 11.11.

Re: Boot from the HP-UX 11.0 Install DVD

This should work for your iinternal DVD drive - try from the main boot menu:

boot 0/0/2/0.0.0

and don't interact with ISL.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

After entered to Boot Menu, I used command : SEA to search bootable device but i can't see any device named CD_ROM, it all are Random Access Memory.

Re: Boot from the HP-UX 11.0 Install DVD

You won't ever see CD_ROM, this drive is a "Random Access Memory" too.

Try as suggested!
boot 0/0/2/0.0.0

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Boot from the HP-UX 11.0 Install DVD

"I've tried your command but it still brings me the same result"

What exactly is your result?

An original install DVD is *always* bootable unless it is not damaged.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
