Boot is Blocked (BIB) is not set

Dear gurus,

I have istalled a machine (hp 9000 - rp 1420) but when I perform the reboot it dosn't proceed and gives me the following message:

Cells have been reset (boot is blocked (BIB) is not set)

So I have to enter into the console and to proceed manually.

how can I automatize this?? I mean on the other machine when I perform a reboot it automatically reboots and gives me the login prompt.

Thanks
Ale

Re: Boot is Blocked (BIB) is not set

Ale,

Is the autoboot on?

When the system is up issue the setboot command.

if Autoboot is set to OFF issue the setboot -b on command (man setboot for further info)

if the primary boot disk is not set issue the setboot -p command

Re: Boot is Blocked (BIB) is not set

Did you mean rp8420? I guess.

I think there is no autoboot configured.

BIB is another story.

Go to the COnfiguration menu and have a look at PF (pathflags) - do "he pf" for help.

Configure PRI to "boot from this path" and set AUTOBOOT to on.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Boot is Blocked (BIB) is not set

the output of the autobbot command is following:

root@uprdbs02.fao.org /tmp # setboot
Primary bootpath : 0/0/0/3/0.6.0
Alternate bootpath : 1/0/1/1/0/1/1.6.0

Autoboot is ON (enabled)
Autosearch is OFF (disabled)

It seems to be enabled.....
but what is this BIB?????

Re: Boot is Blocked (BIB) is not set

BIB status is need for nPar re-configuration and firmware updates.

If BIB is set, the system will go thru the selftest and stop once this is finished. It will NOT go to the boot console handler menu (and won't boot, of course).

The status "BIB is not set" is pretty normal.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Boot is Blocked (BIB) is not set

and what should I do in this case in order to have a "normal" boot?

Re: Boot is Blocked (BIB) is not set

You have 2 possibilities to adjust the boot behaviour.

1. from BCH (boot menu)
you can set the path flags (like mentioned above)

2. with "setboot" from OS

if autoboot is on and autosearch is off, the system will try to boot from the primary disks. If this fails, the system will go to the menu.

with autosearch on, the system will try the next configured path, if the primary fails.

Looks like the system can't boot from the primary path. Check if all boot disks are working (ioscan, vgdisplay vg00) and if the setboot path is configured to the correct values.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Boot is Blocked (BIB) is not set

Ale,

I agree with Torsten - you primary disk must not bootable for some reason. Turn on the autosearch to go to the alternate boot disk.

a lvlnboot command will also give you boot info.........

Re: Boot is Blocked (BIB) is not set

Sounds good to me. Can you paste in the report from lvlnboot -v?
