Boot path

here is the output of path command under ISL menu of an rp8400 server.
i'd like to know what is the "HA Alternate Boot Path" and why we need it?


Main Menu: Enter command or menu > path

Primary Boot Path: 0/0/0/2/0.6
0/0/0/2/0.6 (hex)

HA Alternate Boot Path: 0/0/0/3/1.6
0/0/0/3/1.6 (hex)

Alternate Boot Path: 1/0/0/2/0.6
1/0/0/2/0.6 (hex)

if your boot disk are mirrored then you will see HA boot path . please read thread

It's just another "alternate boot path" so that you can implement a 3-way mirrored system disk and be assured that it will still restart without sysadmin intervention even after any two of the three disks have failed.

This level of redundancy would be useful if your system is in a "life-or-death" critical role.

You can decide for yourself whether _you_ need it or not, but apparently HP has some big customer(s) that require this. Looks like this is a standard firmware feature in all new server models, so it does not cost any extra.

First HA ALt path will be checked.
Time has a wonderful way of weeding out the trivial
