CPU-Upgrade HP9000/D210

I want to upgrade a D210-Server either to a D230- or a D270-System. Is this generally possible ? I have both CPU-boards available. Could this be done vai a simple board-change or is more hardware needed (power-supply ...)?
Thanks
Joachim

Joachim

Double check what I've written below with other people - I'm very much a learner

1] Unlikely I know, but...
Make sure you're not on HP-UX 10.01 still.
Neither upgrade will work unless you're 10.20 or higher

2] Also check your serial prefix number:
Lower than 3638xxxxxx means You'll need a system board

Re: CPU-Upgrade HP9000/D210

If your running 10.20 and upgrading to a D270, then you will need at least HWE 2.0 to run the PA8000 chip.

I would just add the latest 10.20 Hardware patches anyway.

Re: CPU-Upgrade HP9000/D210

Joachim, the D210 to D230 is just a board swap, the D210 to D270 is board & 650w power supply.

Hope this helps.

Re: CPU-Upgrade HP9000/D210

Hi Jesse,
what about to cpu-clockspeed and the bus-speed. Are both automaticelly change by the board-change ?

Re: CPU-Upgrade HP9000/D210

Yes,..the different clock speeds are listed below:

D210 = 100MHz PCXL CPU
D230 = 160MHz PCX-L2 CPU
D270-1 = 160MHz PCX-U CPU

Dx10 to Dx30 Upgrade HP# A3585A opt 851
Dx10 to Dx70-1 Upgrade HP3 A3565A opt 850

Re: CPU-Upgrade HP9000/D210

What is the content of the HP-parts and what the need for ??? If the bus clock speed is automaticely changed by replacing the CPU-board and the motherboard is still the same what ist additionally needed ?

Re: CPU-Upgrade HP9000/D210

If your going to the D230 nothing, if you upgrading to the D270 you need to swap your power supply with a 650w
one, (HP# 0957-2073)

I thought you might want to know what the HP ordering part numbers were for the D210 upgrades.

Re: CPU-Upgrade HP9000/D210

Joachim,
The D210 has a 350W Power Supply you will need a 450W power supply for the D230 and a 650W supply for the D270.
The CPU board and the system card are connected with the HSC bus. That means, the whole system bus is on the CPU card. Therefore you do not need to change any dip switch settings.
Be aware that the hardware addresses will change, because the D270 has one more bus adapter in the IO passes and the D230 emulates these bus adapter.
There is no good troubleshooting with bad data
