Is there anything special that I need to know or do in order to purchase the new CPU? I contacted two companies and asked for a quote. One company gave me a quote of $3850.00 for the processor and the second company gave me a quote of $13568.28 for the processor. What is wrong with this picture?

Re: CPU for rp3440-4
This is a complete list including an engineer onsite to intall the cpu, 3 years support (24X7 4 hours response time).
The first quote is probably for the cpu only.

Re: CPU for rp3440-4
There's something screwy with the second quote you received.
The AB354AR is actually an 800MHz PA-8900 (not a 1GHz PA-8800). The "R" code means that it's a remarketed part originating from within HP EMR.
The first quote you have is from a broker, and covers the hardware only. The second quote is from HP and includes bundled installation and maintenance support services (hardware & software). It is up to you to decide which option offers better value.
FWIW we have a couple of surplus AB354A kits which weren't required for a recent roll-out. Feel free to contact me via sales AT parallix.com if you need another quote.

Re: CPU for rp3440-4
The AB354A is indeed the 1GHz PA-8800 part. For some reason I read it as AB534AR (which is the 800MHz PA-8900 part).
Apologies for the confusion.
