CPU processing power HP9000 N4000 and K460

Hi,

Machine A : HP9000 N4000 / CPU 2X 360 / RAM 3GB Machine B : HP9000 K460 / CPU 4X 180 / RAM 3GB

What is the processing speed (i.e. mips etc) for the above 2 machines & what is the different in performance (batch/online) ?

Do you have any old reference ? Any comment appreciated.

Hi whiteknight, as an expert you should know that the systems can have very different CPU's each.

For the N-class this starts with 1-8 PA-8500 360MHz up to PA-8700 750MHz.

For this server I found different SPEC results in the past, but for the K-class?

The N-class is the successor of the K, more or less.

The K460 was using 1-4 PA-8000 180 MHz CPUs.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: CPU processing power HP9000 N4000 and K460

Hi WK,

I have an old reference tool that lists the N4000, but I have yet to find anything for the K460. The N4000 shows a Maximum Transactions per Minute of 60,000. That's with 8 CPUs, so you would presumably see 1/4 of that, or 15,000 TPM.

I'll post again if I can find anything on the K460.

Hi Whiteknight,

The K460/4 will give you:
TPM - estimate of 16500
SPECint_rate95 - 418
SPECfp_rate95 - 398

The N4000 is a little more tricky as the manual gives the range from 1 - 8 CPU's, so here are the ranges:
TPM - estimate: 7300 - 44000
SPECint_rate95: 250 - 1970
SPECfp_rate95: 420 - 1890

I would suggest that for speed, the 460/4 has it by a small margin as the rates are not arithmetical. All these figures come from the config guides May 2000 (N-Class) and Nov 99 (K-Class)

Mike.
