CPU swap

Have an HP9000 L2000 bought used with 4 CPU's. hardware check in BCH showed one of the CPU's was deconfigured and not working. No big deal, there were 3 more and system booted just fine. Meantime, my network/hardware administrator tried swapping cpu locations between a good and the bad cpu, and then switched them back when he got a fatal error during boot. Needless to say, we continue to get a fatal error on boot.

alert level: 15 fatal
Source: 3 = PDH
source detail: 2 = ROM.

Is there anyway to fix this without support. I can't get past this error.

Thanks.

Re: CPU swap

Hi Jolene,

I am trying to say this out of memory. If your CPU0 is bad, this may cause system to NOT boot.

Please provide the details of the CPU number which got deconfigured, which was swapped where, etc. This will help us to guide you.

For the time being, remove the deconfigured CPU and restore all other CPUs to their original positions and try to boot.

You can also post the GSP log in its entirety here to check it properly.

Never try to swap a deconfigured CPU unless you ensured that there is no problem in the CPU. This can cause further damages to other components.

With regards,
Mohan.

Re: CPU swap

we have 4 processors 0 thru 3, 2 was bad and we swapped 2 and 3, then replaced them back to their original positions. Is it ok to take out the bad processor and leave the slot empty and do a system reset? here is our log:

Re: CPU swap

running with 3 CPUs is fine, just make sure the correct slots are filled. check the air baffle (the second cover on the top) for the corect order to install them in. If I remember correctly, the order is 0, 3, 1, 2, but don't quote me on it.
