We recently got a server from ebay (we are a small software firm) and thus not supported. The machine is a rp5400 N-Series. It seems the machine got damaged in transit (the plastic front panel is a bit damaged, but inspecting the internals of the machine does not show anything obviously broken) because all lights are blinking and the following shows in GSP console.
We have spent quite a bit of time researching on the forums and cannot figure what may be going wrong (the closest we came with was: http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=592830 which suggested the backplane may be broken) Any idea where we could look? Or what to test exactly? The seller says the machine was working ok when sent and will replace anything that was broken.
Any pointers? Thanks!

Re: Can't boot machine
I would suggest to log a call with HP and forward these GSP logs to them to diagnose the correct part.

Re: Can't boot machine
I would suggest to reseat the components (memory, interfaces, Power monitor board...).
if you can please send me the GSP logs and copy paste all the POST procedure from the minute you turn the power on.

Re: Can't boot machine
Everything, as far as we can tell, is properly seated. The POST procedure that we pasted is everything that shows from the minute we poered on. How can I send locate/display the GSP logs so I can send them?

Solutionwhen inside the GSP to view the logs (what will also clear all your fault and attention lights in the front of the server)type the following:
GSP> SL
pick E for error log.
no filtering is needed.
Q will allow you to quit.
since the system is an RP5400 (L1000)another thing, how many processors do you have, what speed, and in the case you have a single processor, do you have a terminator installed ?

Re: Can't boot machine
Sorry, as soon as I posted I should have researched how to do the GSP logs. I just did and this is what I get:
Log Entry # 0 :
SYSTEM NAME: gsp-hp10206
DATE: 02/14/2007 TIME: 15:44:47
ALERT LEVEL: 15 = Fatal hardware or configuration problem prevents operation
SOURCE: 3 = PDH
SOURCE DETAIL: 2 = ROM SOURCE ID: 0
PROBLEM DETAIL: 0 = no problem detail
CALLER ACTIVITY: 1 = test STATUS: 0
CALLER SUBACTIVITY: 56 = implementation dependent
REPORTING ENTITY TYPE: 0 = system firmware REPORTING ENTITY ID: 00
0x000000F032001560 00000000 00000002 type 0 = Data Field Unused
0x580008F032001560 00006B01 0E0F2C2F type 11 = Timestamp 02/14/2007 15:44:47
Type CR for next entry, Q CR to quit.
From the SS command:
System Processor Status:
Monarch Processor: 0
Processor 0 is : Installed and Configured
Processor 1 is : Not Installed
Processor 2 is : Not Installed
Processor 3 is : Installed and Configured
GSP Host Name: gsp-hp10206
What is a processor terminator? we have black plastic pieces that go in the processor sockets that are free.
Thanks again

Re: Can't boot machine
if you where to have only one processor (which you dont), a terminator would have been install in CPU 3 spot.
it seems that your system is not configured properly:
"Fatal hardware or configuration problem prevents "
looking at the pic you sent it all looks fine, I would do the following:
1. make sure that both CPU's have have the same P/N and speed.
2. minimize the system hardware, pull all memory out and leave it with only 1 module slot 0a and 0b (make sure the same dimms size are used).
also remove any interfaces beside the 2 bottem ones (GSP and lan scsi).
other then that make sure all cables are connected properly.

Re: Can't boot machine
on your spec list i did not see a LAN/SCSI interface which is suppose to be the first interface in the bottem P/N A5191-60211.
Also, what is the P/N of the support module (does it say Version A.10 on it ?)
