Cannot boot old K380 server

Hi all,

I had to reboot an old K380 server running HP-UX 10.20.

Now it doesn't startup.

When I issue "sea" at the boot ISL, no devies are discovered...

Any clue what the problem might be?

Any help or sugestions are welcome.

Hi,

Nothing as in not even your scsi devices, cdrom, etc?? Can you post the result of "SEA"

I think possibly is your connection of the IO cage to the backplane, you can try to re-seat that.

The SEA command returns nothing (no disk, no CD and no tape).

I have already re-inserted the IO cage from the backplane... and still the same problem.
I have also swapped the terminators and even swapped IO cage from another identical server. The same prebel remains...

More suggestions are welcome!

Hi Rui,

Do you have just the onboard SCSI or do you have other SCSI cards in this machine?

Has anything changed on the machine since you last booted?

If you have some external SCSI disks, has on of the ID's changed thereby causing a SCSI ID conflict. For example if you had an A3311/2A HASS unit attached and one of the SCSI ID's had been changed this would give youa similar type of problem. These units can sometimes need there SCSI ID dip switches re-stated as they can sometimes "wonder". Check all the settings are correct and to make sure unset and reset back to their original position.

hi rui,

try to slam the i/o cardcage into the backplane. you will need to do this sometimes to ensure good contact to the backplane. run a 'sea' command again at ISL prompt after that.

Try to swap the core I/O card from your other server - this card is possible bad.
(SCSI controller for internal devices is on this card).
