Re: Changing Max PE per PV

TYhe real problem is that is there are only a fixed number of slots available to track all the extents (default is 1016, max is 65k). When the VG is created, the maxPE value (default or otherwise) defines the absolute maximum size of the VG. One of the advantages of LVM is that it is real easy to setup VG00 for HP-UX only and everything else goes onto other VGs. Unfortunately, masny sysadmins come from a workstation background where they are used to one big disk and VG00 becomes a junkyard for everything.

HP-UX fits easily onto a 4gb disk (/home never needs to be in vg00) so if you have 9Gb drives, vg00 is fine the way it is. Whatever is filling up everything beyond the first 4Gb is obviously not HP-UX so create a new VG and use mounpoints to move the non-OS files onto another VG.
