Changing N4000 Model String

How do I change the model string on a HP-UX N4000? Is it done by HP through their SS_Update program, by dip swiches on the board or some other means?

I recently had my N4000's system board changed as part of a repair. I wrote down the systems model string, the SW_ID and the SW_CAP before changing the board and gave it to the CE. After he ran SS_Update and entered the serial# of the machine, the SW_ID and SW_CAP were correct but the model string was not. I used to have "9000/800/N4000-55" and now I have "9000/800/N4000-44" though I'm still using the same 550mhz processors I've always used and the board's dip switches are set corrrectly for 550 Mhz processors. The CE said that it didn't matter and left but I want it right.

It can only be done by HP through their SS_Config program. Your CE ommitted the step where he is supposed to code/pick the model_string.
Missing MPE :-)

Re: Changing N4000 Model String

hi steve,

yes HP should have done it at time of installation. Drag them back and make them do it for you with ss_config utility.
This should actually change when the dip switch settings are correct.
check the pdc firmware is upto date. The earlier versions did'nt update the model string correctly.
you may ahve an older version of firmware on the system board
