Changing/Upgrading RAM in Vpar environment

Is there anything I need to prepare for before we change/upgrade RAM in vPar environments?
We will be installing high capacity RAM and re-allocating old RAM from one (two-vPar) rp7410 server to another (two-vPar) rp7410 server. Will the Vpars automatically detect the change in memory size on each slot? I'm sure I will need to manually assign memory installed in previously empty slots.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Changing/Upgrading RAM in Vpar environment

The vPars WILL NOT automatically recognise the new memory sizes as the vPar specifications are contained in a database. So you will have to manually adjust the vPars memory using vparmgr or vparmodify. Of course, you will need a platform/nPar shutdown for your memory change.

If you have a 2 vPar system, bring up VPMON then 1 vPar.. and do a vparmodify or vparmgr to modify the other vpar's memory. Then once the the 2nd vpar is adjusted, shutdown the other vpar and reconfigure its memory from the other vpar (if there is a need)....

Re: Changing/Upgrading RAM in Vpar environment

Therefore I should do the following:
Shutdown -h -y 0 on both vPars

Using MP:
MP>CM>rs reset nPar

Stop and interact with ISL

ISL>hpux /stand/vpmon

MON>vparload -p

Login as root ...

# vparmodify -p -m mem::8000

Shutdown -r

Is that it?
Thanks!
