Chassis codes

Hi

I have an old L2000. From time to time the server crashes. So I spent some time to analyse the problem.....
I'm not sure if the failed is the fan in power supply.

Re: Chassis codes

Stefan,
according to the PS/FAN status 3 fans failed

0 Normal Type 0 | Failure
1 Normal Type 0 | Failure
2 Not Installed - | Normal
3 - - | Normal
4 - - | Failure
5 - - | Normal
6 - - | Normal
7 - - | Normal

fans 0,1 and 4
check the fands amber lights and you will see which one is bad.

Re: Chassis codes

Also, from the GSP chassis log you can see:

PROBLEM DETAIL: 6 = insufficient # of fans

you can lose up to 2 fans out of the 6 you have, after that the system will crash (it also depands which fans since there are 2 large ones for the CPU/SB cabin and 4 small oned for the I/O cabin).

Re: Chassis codes

I would suggest to replace all 3, when missing a fan in the L class the other fans spins faster to compensate for the loss, that will consume more power and shorten there life spam.

you can get away with replacing 2 but I would sugget to replace all 3.

Re: Chassis codes

hi,

all three fans should be replaced or the system will eventually shutdown again.

fan 0 is located at the front (lge fan)
fan 1 is located at the rear (lge fan)

fans 2,3,4,5 are all located behind the hard disks in the service bay area. removing this cover will show you which one is defective by the amber light.

The info needed to replace the fans is in the user guide

http://www.docs.hp.com/en/A5191-96018/ch07s02.html#d0e6550

One more thing is just try and move the rear and front fans slightly rocking them, as a a bad or dirty contact will stop it from working.
