Please can anyone tell me if the following cards are compatible with rp7420 with either HP-UX 11.11 or 11.23. Please let me know for each card.
1.AB545A
2.A7011A
3.A7012A
4.AB465A
5.AB290A
urls for the above cards -
1,2,3 - http://www.hp.com/products1/serverconnectivity/adapters/ethernet/specifications/gigabit_ethernet_specs.html
4 - http://www.hp.com/products1/serverconnectivity/storagesnf2/2gb_2port/specifications.html
5 - http://www.hp.com/products1/serverconnectivity/storagesnf2/U320/specifications.html
For cards 1-4 the url shows compatibility with rp74200 but the rp7420 docs or even the HP configurator does not list the mentioned cards. Is it just that the docs are not updated or the cards are not compatible ?
For card 5 rp7410 is mentioned but not rp7420. Is this card compatible with rp7420 ?
Can anyone from HP throw a light on this ?
Thanks and regards,
Ninad

SolutionFound these two links.
http://www.hp.com/products1/serverconnectivity/support_matrices.html
http://www.hp.com/products1/servers/rackoptimized/rp7420/supplies.html
Believe all cards are supported on the RP7420. The configurator will only list the latest parts available.
Hope this helps,

Re: Compatibility of Cards with rp7420
Just a small query on these cards.
What are the advantages/disadvantages of multiport cards Vs single port cards and multifunction/multiport cards Vs single function/multiport cards.
Like is there any drawback for using multiport card in terms of effective response it provides if all the ports are being used ? other than single point of failure.
Is there any performance implication in using multi port cards against single port cards ?
Thanks again,
Ninad

Re: Compatibility of Cards with rp7420
I understand the advantage of having high density ports when having lesser PCI slots and that they need to be installed only in supported systems. You have a point when saying in supported slots to get the advantage. Can you please elaborate that for my better understanding - if possible with an e.g.
Another question in this regard - the underlying intention for this thread - was to understand if I can have multiple vPars in a rp7420 with say one AB290A (dual channel Ultra 320 + dual port 1000 Base-T) and one AB465A (PCI-X 2-port 2GB FC & 2-port 1000 Base-T) meaning just 2 cards for one vPar so that I can have 7 vPars in a rp7420.
Please can you clarify the above doubts.
There are some more questions coming - in a seperate thread.
Thanks a lot,
Ninad

Re: Compatibility of Cards with rp7420
you can have up to 16 vPars in your system, see http://docs.hp.com/en/1705/oc.pdf
very good document regarding your question
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Compatibility of Cards with rp7420
In the links you posted, http://docs.hp.com/en/supportmatrixEthernetver2July05.pdf/supportmatrixEthernetver2Sept05.pdf you see the "max number of cards", sometimes this is less than the number of slots.
In the same link you'll find additional information, like "card A1234 cannot work in slot X in a rp1234 system, or shared slots are not supported in rp1234 for this card".
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Compatibility of Cards with rp7420
In case you still have some doubts, I have checked in HP documentation (some is internal) that all these cards are supported on rp7420,

Re: Compatibility of Cards with rp7420
Torsten -
Yes I have read the document for which you have provided the link - which says you can have 16 vPars in a rp7420. That is with respect to having atleast a single CPU per vPar. You can use single multi function card for each vPar and thus can have 16 vPars in rp7420.
But if these are production servers then you need to have atleast 2 cards (multi function - like a multi function card having FC and ethernet) for each vPar which will boot thru SAN thru the FC and will have redundant paths and also can mitigate against a single card failure. In such a case you can have 7 vPars with 1 vacant PCI slot and Core IO in one PCI slot.
Thanks and Regards,
Ninad
