Compatible SCSI Autoloader for the rp3440
Anyone have information on which Autoloaders will work with the rp3440? The server has an internal SCSI Ultra320 A6961-60011 card. I tried to connect a 1/8 G2 LTO-4 Ultrium 1760 SCSI Autoloader, but ioscan doesn't see it at all. I know the Autoloader and cabling are good because I took it off a running ML 350 G5 and recently did a firmware update on it with HP LT&T 4.17.
The rp3440 is running HP-UX B.11.11. I did find one obscure reference that the rp3440 with the Ultra320 A6961-60011 can not support an Autoloader.
I hope that is not the case.
Thanks to all who respond.

Re: Compatible SCSI Autoloader for the rp3440
HP-UX 11.11 (and 11.23) are both obsolete and out of support this December. But 11.11 hasn't had any major updates for a long time. Autoloaders have a long history of being very picky about OS, drivers and SCSI cards. The Ultra320 is a big jump over standard SCSI. About all you can do is to add the autoch driver and see if the changer shows up.

Make sure there is a terminator at the library port installed.
In ioscan you should at least see 2 "UNKNOWN devices, because the tape and changer drivers are probably not loaded.
Could you provide the ioscan -fn?
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Compatible SCSI Autoloader for the rp3440
The Kernel has both schgr & stape loaded. Is there an autoch driver to add as well? Anyway, I would expect the tape drive to show up in inscan even if the loader does not. By the way, this server has a built-in SCSI port. I didn't try to connect the loader there yet...

Re: Compatible SCSI Autoloader for the rp3440
I already have an Ultrium 3-SCSI installed and running on this box. The Kernel has both schgr & stape. I need to look into autoch which was mentioned in an ealrier thread on this post. The loader was connected to 0/2/1/1.

Re: Compatible SCSI Autoloader for the rp3440
Make sure the loader is set to "random" mode, in sequential mode it is just an "endless" tape without a robotics device.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Compatible SCSI Autoloader for the rp3440
Finally got back into the datacenter to give it another try. Set the Autoloader Mode to Manual, Random, powered it off, reconnected it to the rp34440, power it on and ran another ioscan -fn. And it still shows nothing on that hardware path.
Another source tells me "I think you should be able to go with an Ultrium 920 (SCSI) instead..."
So, I'm going to punt and use this autoloader on a Windows box instead.
Thanks for all the suggestions!
Kudos to all!
