Re: Configuring to default gateway B2600 9000 series

Hi All,

I connected this workstation directly and a windows desktop to local router with both of them configured with static IP. I was able to telnet to the workstation from windows desktop, without any problem.

I modified the /etc/hosts file of workstation,

192.168.0.40

- /etc/rc.config.d/netconf

IP_ADDRESS[0]="192.168.0.40"
SUBNET_MASK[0]="255.255.255.0"
GATEWAY_ROUTER[0]="192.168.0.1"

Not sure if i am missing anything here, when i hook it to office network. I even tested by changing subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 from 0xffffff00. Also i tried to use the port of office network which works with an windows desktop on this subnet (149.59.143.xx).

BTW: i have asked network person to map the mac address with static IP of the workstation now on the gateway router. I have not yet tested with this setup yet.

Thanks,

Re: Configuring to default gateway B2600 9000 series

You have set the IP address to 192.168.0.40 for the HP-UX workstation. But then you say you've tried this on a port on the office network on a 149.59.143 subnet.

If you didn't change the IP address on the HP-UX workstation, then things definitely will NOT work.

Trying to use a 192.168.0 address on a 149.59.143 subnet, with a 255.255.255.0 subnet mask is not even remotely compatible.

You must make sure everything is in the correct subnet before you have a chance of having things working.

Patrick,

'** Also i tried to use the port of office network which works with an windows desktop on this subnet (149.59.143.xx)**'.

sorry for the confusion, what i meant was the port used on office network did work with a windows desktop but not with HP workstation (In case port was an issue reaching gateway router). HP workstation and Windows desktop were configured for the same gateway router, 149.59.143.1 and with IP address 149.59.143.xx. I am looking for this configuration to work, but not yet sucessful.

As second step, i modified the entries IP address, subnet mask and gateway router in /etc/rc.config.d/netconf and hosts files on hp workstation and relevant changes for windows desktop and connected with local router. The second test was to confirm the network interface is working. In the second scenario i was able to telnet from windows desktop to hp workstation.

Thanks,

Re: Configuring to default gateway B2600 9000 series

Hi All,

Thanks for all the input, the problem was with hub which i used for sharing the port. After replacing the hub the networking issue was resolved.
