Connectivity to HP-UX PA Risc Server

Hi,

I have a laptop which doesn't have a serial port. It has got USB, RJ45 & RJ11 port. Please tell me how can I connect this to HP-UX PA Risc server. Which cable I can use and how?

Thanks

Re: Connectivity to HP-UX PA Risc Server

Best solution would be a converter from your PC's USB to the servers serial port.

You can also connect via network, of course.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Shalom,

Buy a usb to serial adapter and connect it to the pa-risc boxes console port.

hyperterminal or procomm will make he connection easily.

Re: Connectivity to HP-UX PA Risc Server

thanks for the reponse. I want to connect without network.

Please tell me whether all the HP-UX PA Risc servers has 25 pin female serial port or some of them has 9 pin as well.

Thanks again
Torsten.

Re: Connectivity to HP-UX PA Risc Server

All servers have a 9 pin connector.
On some models there is a special "W"-cable with 1 25pin and 3 9pin connectors (UPS/console/modem).

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Connectivity to HP-UX PA Risc Server

As per Steven's reply.. I can use a usb to serial adapter and connect it to the pa-risc boxes console port and hyperterminal or procomm will make the connection.

Pls let me know which connection I have to select in hyperterminal for that. Is it COM1?

Re: Connectivity to HP-UX PA Risc Server

It is probably COM1, but check the software settings for your adapter.

You may also use the current putty software (serial) to connect.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Connectivity to HP-UX PA Risc Server

I've come to the game late but I've always kept a USB/Serial converter for connection to either Sun or HP servers. I also grabbed the 9-pin connectors from a Cisco device in case I need that. I also prefer VanDykes SecureCRT because of it's flexibility on a single interface. I use it for SSH/SFTP/Telnet/FTP/Serial connections.

My device has always comes up as COM4.

For HP I set:
Speed 9600
Data bits 8
Stop bits 1
Parity None
Flow XON/XOFF
These settings should work unless you have changed things

For Sun (if interested) is the same.
