Console login question

Hi, I've tried connecting to my console port and when it asks for a login, I type the root login and password which it then says is invalid. Is there a seperate user and password for the console port ???

Also, I have the LAN console connected and would like to find the IP address for it, how do I do so ??

Sorry, for all the question, I'm an AIX admin and oracle dba and I i've now inherited a number of HP-UX boxes. Can't quite get my head around it yet.

Cheers

Re: Console login question

Hi,

GSP login ?

try without a user and passwd, just use the enter key.

otherwise you could try

user: Admin or admin
passwd: Admin or admin

The LC command will display the configuration of the GSP.

Re: Console login question

Hi,

1. what hp model ?
2. what is your prompt when you try to login ?
if "MP login:" then you need to log into MP, before you can use system console.
(default user: Admin, password: Admin)

3. root password for system console is the same.

Re: Console login question

Hi Brendan,

If you can see the normal system login to the system, looks like you need to set the console terminal into vt100 or HP.

But if you have a GSP login in your console, try to use default password to login to GSP. Once you login, type CO to get to the system console login.

Below is the example of GSP login :

[root@test123] / > telnet test123-mp
Trying...
Connected to test123-mp.
Escape character is '^]'.
Local flow control off

*************************************************************************
Only default users are configured.
Use one of the following user/password pairs to login:

Admin/Admin <<< default password OR
Oper/Oper <<< default password
*************************************************************************

MP login:

To chek the IP address for LAN console, you can try LS command on GSP prompt.
Try to execute help (HE) to find the command list.

Hope this information can help you.

Re: Console login question

Hi

If the system login propmt appears, you should be able to login with proper terminal settings.

LAN console has default IP 127.0.0.1 which can be modified from GSP ( CNTRL+B) lc menu

Re: Console login question

Ok, I've found my LAN console IP address. It comes up with;

Service processor Login:

I've tried to use admin/admin, Admin/Admin, Oper/Oper, Oper/Oper and also root/. Nothing works. I know the port is enabled through the GSP menu. How can I find the username and or reset the password ???

Next is the serial console connection. Here's the prompt I get;

GenericSysName [HP Release B.11.11] (see /etc/issue)
Console Login:

I tried admin/admin, Admin/Admin and the root/. Nothing. Ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Console login question

hi brendan,

to reset the GSP password, press the GSP reset button and responding, within 5 seconds, to the query that
appears on the system console.

with root login the following HP-UX command can be used to reset GSP.

# stty +resetGSP
however, it seems u do not have root login access as well. so, u may also have to reset that by going into single user mode and using passwd command to reset. unless, of course, u have another username with root privilege.

Re: Console login question

hi,

on further reading, the default "Service processor Login:" is blank which means just press "Enter" button twice.

this will bring u to the GSP console.

what the rest has mentioned on Admin/Admin is referring to the MP login user account and passowrd which applies to the rp and rx servers range.

Thanks for all that.
