Cpu and memory upgrade of ES40

Hi all,

We received the CPUs and memory for ES40 Server in the last couple of weeks. After getting the go ahead from our client for upgrade we have done the following steps and having some issues regarding memory and CPU. The current configuration of the server before upgrade was with 1 CPU and 2 GB (512x4) of stacked memory.

First of all we upgraded the firmware version to 6.6 and it was updated successfully.

Following were the steps taken for upgrade of memory and CPU and the errors given by the system:

Memory Issues :

In Array form

According to the ES40 ownerâ s guide documentation on Rules of DIMM installation we had created one arrays (Array 0 ) by following steps

two DIMMS of 512 MB in set 0 of MMB0

two DIMMS of 512 MB in set 4 of MMB0

two DIMMS of 512 MB in set 0 of MMB1

two DIMMS of 512 MB in set 4 of MMB1

note: All the memory modules are of the same type. Part number is MS610-EA 2GB memory option 100 MHz (512*4)

Now when we power up the machine we were getting these messages on console

RMC Error status 80

RMC command=01 qualifier:0cff size=01

RMC command failure

RMC Error status 80

RMC command=01 qualifier:0c80 size=0a

RMC command failure

RMC Error status 80

RMC command=01 qualifier:0c8a size=01

RMC command failure

Array Size Intv Mode

0 4096 1-way

P00>>

In sets form

By installing DIMMS in set 0,1,2,3 in the following manner

Fill four DIMMS of 512 MB in set 0 & set 2 of MMB0

Fill four DIMMS of 512 MB in set 0 & set 2 of MMB1

Fill four DIMMS of 512 MB in set 1 & set 3 of MMB2

Fill four DIMMS of 512 MB in set 1 & set 3 of MMB3

In this scenario we replace the stacked memory with un stacked with the same type, but in this case we get the memory init fail on the server display and system beeps and stops there.

CPU Issues:

Step 1 :

Putting stacked memory back where it was before upgrade and install CPUs.

CPU 0 (old CPU)

CPU 1 (newly Added) Part number KN610-BA

CPU 2 (newly Added) KN610-BA

CPU 3 (newly Added) KN610-BA

After powering up the server we get the PS config error on the server display nothing happen after that.

Step 2 :

Remove CPU 2 & CPU 3 and power up the system. We get the P00>> without any errors.

Step 3 :

Add CPU 3 and power up the system and again we get the PS config error on the server display and nothing happen after that.

Note : for CPU upgrade we have the mother board with the following labels on it

P/N = 54-25385-01

AY10611171

E07

Finally we bring the system back to the position with 1 CPU (old) and 2 GB of stacked memory and its working fine, so there is no upgrade now L.

what will be the cause of these issues.
