D-380

Hi All,

Which Other server would you all suggest me to have as a replacement for the D-380... with a similar architecture and similar configuration with around 300-350 Gig Hard Disk.

Re: D-380

Hmmmm

Would be nice to know a bit more :-)

Are you going to replace a d380, what kind of OS are you going to use?

If you can use 11.11(pa-risc) or 11.31(itanium) you could be looking rp3410(pa-risc) or the rx2660.

Re: D-380

Well... I wanted to go for a server which is compatable with HP-UX 11.11 and 11.31 as well[ for future use].

And a PA-RISC server only as my costumers have only PA-RISC Servers...

Also I am also wondering if a PA-RISC server and an Itanium server can be together clupped in a cluster.. or if they all should be of a similar kind

Re: D-380

Hi again,

Yes the RP3410 will support HPUX 11.11, 11.23 and 11.31. This is the entry level pa-risc server. From performance point of view, this server should be large enough to replace a d380.

Mixing MC/SG over two architectures is not going to be a good solution in my opinion. Remember that the OS may be the same name 11.31 for PA-Risc and 11.31 for Itanium, the installation filesets are not the same. You will have the same problem for your database/application software, you will need to install the Risc version on one and the Itanium version on the other. How are you going maintain this setup (patch installs etc)?

Hope this helps a bit,

Re: D-380

Grayh,

Have a look at this link, you will find the support information for HPUX servers.

No, not in production but they can certainly be purchased and at a bargain price (used). You will be immensely surprised at the performance of the rp24xx series, and even more so with the rp34xx compared to the D380.
