D370 DB9 local console pinout

Need to know the D370 DB9 local console pinout. We will be connecting it to a KVM like device.

The DB9 connector pinouts are the same as a PC's DB9. A standard DB9-DB25 printer cable (not a modem cable) will connect to a terminal. However, it cannot work with a KVM device as it is not a video interface. It is a simple RS-232 serial connection. If you have a serial port concentrator from Cisco or BlackBox, you can connect the console. Note that many terminal concentrators use RJ-45 LAN connectors to save space but there is no standard (or more acurately, many, many incompatible standards) ro RS-232 signals on an RJ-45 cable.

We are connecting to a serial KVM from Raritan and it works great. We need more db9 connecters. Was hoping for pin1 = transmit, pin2 = receive, pin7=ground, etc...

The serial box from Raritan is called a console switch. KVM refers to KeyboardVideoMonitor, none of which apply to a serial console connection. It's common for Linux users to think in terms of a KVM switch for all Unix systems but unless the Unix box has a video card (unusual for the D-class systems and most other HP-X servers), a serial console switch is needed. Both the Raritan Dominion and Console Switch models have RJ-45 connectors so you'll need to contact Raritan for the pinouts as the RJ-45 is vendor specific. The DB9 side of the connector is a standard PC layout. Raritan should be able to provide the complete diagram for both ends. However, after pricing an RJ-45 to DB9 connector for a different console switch product (from Cyclades), I could not justify building these adapters (they were about $12 apiece). I just bought off-the-shelf serial printer cables and connected them to the Cyclades adapters.
