D370 RMC Removal & Replace with A4107A FWD Card

Hi,

Anyone know if removal of the standard A3342A RMC HSC Card & replacement with an HSC FWD SCSI Card is possible on a D3xx?

Any new patches etc needed?

Cheers

James

Re: D370 RMC Removal & Replace with A4107A FWD Card

James,
good question. Docs do not state clearly if any other than AP cards can be installed/will work at 8/0, it only says 8/0 is for AP Console use. I believe if you'll try inserting SCSI card in there it might work, but afraid that as soon as this slot is for 'special' use there could be PDC/firmware problems because AP card is expected in this slot, but not SCSI card.
If you'll look at the system board you may see 'HSC access port slot' printed on the slot 0...

James,

sure you can do that, at least I can assure you it worked for a 100Mbit Ehternet HSC bus card (for which there wasn't any other slot left).

Only thing is that at boot time you cannot switch into console mode (Ctrl-B) at the serial terminal console. You see the HW test only in the small display at the front of the machine. Usually that is OK though.
