D380 with hot-swap add on - hardware paths

I'm supporting a system that is far, far away with a dead disk. It's a D380 which has the hot plug option, so drives can be pulled from the front and replaced. My problem is I need to figure out which disk to pull. Does anyone happen to know the hardware paths for the hot plug disks?

I believe they're at 8/4.?... just looking for some relation to what slots they're plugged into on the server.

Yes, I could run a dd and look for the blinky lights, but nobody is on site at the moment. They're gone for the day.

Easy points for anyone that knows or has a doc to reference.

Thanks,

Re: D380 with hot-swap add on - hardware paths

It depends ...

There is a switch on the bay backplane for selecting the address range.

The top slot is either 4 or 5, the lower slots are either 12..15 or 8..11 (default).

Usually it is written inside the door.

Caution: The internal disks can share the bus with external drives!

Can you provide an

# ioscan -fn

?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: D380 with hot-swap add on - hardware paths

Thanks Torsten. Here's an ioscan and based on your info and the ioscan, I'd say it was kept at default. The disk at 8/4.9.0 is dead and this should be the 3rd one up from the bottom.

Re: D380 with hot-swap add on - hardware paths

F/W SCSI (Hot Swap) SE SCSI (D2xx only)
Disk 1 8/4.5.0 8/16/5.6.0
Disk 2 8/4.8.0 8/16/5.5.0
Disk 3 8/4.9.0 (D3xx only)
Disk 4 8/4.10.0 (D3xx only)
Disk 5 8/4.11.0 (D3xx only)

Re: D380 with hot-swap add on - hardware paths

I would agree, but this is IMHO a bit strange:

disk 15 8/4.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE SEAGATE ST34573WC
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0

8/4.0.0

SCSI ID 0?

Must be external ...? If this is external, others maybe external too.

Hope this helps!

Re: D380 with hot-swap add on - hardware paths

I noticed 8/4.0.0 too and wondered where it's at. I have photos of the front/back of the box and saw 3 scsi cables plugged in. There's a model 12 array connected to two of those cables... I'm betting the 3rd cable goes to 8/4.0.0. I will have someone trace that cable back and let me know what's connected. I didn't see any jbod so it'd have to be a stand alone disk.

Thanks for the info!
