DF Disks on rp3440

Hi,

I'm trying to connect a A3311A ( Jamaica - HASS ) disk cabinet
to the external SCSI port on a rp3440. Ioscan on the rp3440
shows the SCSI adapter to be:

SCSI C1010 Ultra160 Wide LVD

And I have two 9.1 Gb DF ( A5238A - Differential ) drives in
the A3311A.

After making all the conections and rebooting the rp3440, iocan
does not show the 9.1 Gb Drives in the A3311A. I've verified
that there are no SCSI conflicts. The two disks in the A3311A
are the only two devices on the 0/1/1/1 hardware path.

I can't figure out why these disks aren't showing up in iocan.

Have I made an erroneous assumption that the Ultra160 SCSI
adapter will support these drives?

I'm not very concerned about performance. I'm only trying to
make this connection for migrating data to the new server
( the rp3440 ).

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom

Re: DF Disks on rp3440

Yes your assumption is wrong. Your present HBA will support LVD/SE SCSI devices but not the HVD SCSI disks in the JBOD. HVD is only compatible with HVD.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: DF Disks on rp3440

If you can find an A4800A or an A5159A these will support High Voltage Differential (HVD) SCSI devices. HVD is sometimes called FWD as well.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Clay,

Thanks, I was afraid of that.

Re: DF Disks on rp3440

Oh, and one more point. Support for all HVD/FWD devices is dropped as of HP-UX 11.23 so unless your rp3xxx is running 11.11, you will not be able to use HVD SCSI devices unless you use an LVD/HVD bus convertor.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
