DIfferences between RP7400 and RP7410

Hello colleagues,
I need to know the main differences between the RP7400 server and the RP7410.
What's mostly important for me are the I/O capability: SCSI external storage connectivity, web console, ....

Thanks a lot
Enrico

Re: DIfferences between RP7400 and RP7410

Enrico,

the most important difference is that the N-class (rp7400) does *not* support hard partitioning, while on an rp7410 you can have two npars.

Moreover, the 875MHz CPUs (8700+) are not supported in the rp7400, there you go at 750MHz max.

Cards for storage and LAN should not make any important difference.

Bernhard

Re: DIfferences between RP7400 and RP7410

Hi Enrico,

Huge differences.
The 7410 is a cell-based system & as such will support 2 hard partitions (nPars) as well as vPars like the 7400
The 7400 is basically the same as an N-class.

7410 has space for 4 easily hot-swappable disk drives on the front. 7400 only 2 & they're in the back & not easily hot-swappable.
7410 has space for the DVD drive internal. 7400 has NO space - DVD must be external.

7410 is much newer technology & IMO a far superior system. They're more expensive, but if you can get by with 650MHZ processors, take a look at the rp7405 - heck of a price on it & it's the same architecture as 7410.

Rgds,
Jeff
