hello slawek regarding to which FC cards can be installed on your server this can be easily obtained from the server service guide manual from docs.hp.com or go to partsurfer.hp.com and type in your model no. and it will display all the available cards.

regarding the drivers that will be needed. you should ask IBM they'll have the answers to those questions about which drivers to install and which patches should be available etc.

There shouldn't be a problem connecting the servers to the SAN storage. you'll just need your regular SAN switches fibre cables etc.

Well for an IBM disk array, I'd look at what IBM suggest:

http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/storage/disk/ds4000/pdf/interop-matrix.pdf

Odd thing is though that the HP branded cards mentioned here are all way out of date - personally I'd much rather put an HP branded card into a HP-UX server than some third party card that needed non-HP kernel drivers...

Still if this is what IBM support... just be clear that HP won't help you with storage problems on non-HP kit...

Re: DS4800 and rp7410 and rx7640?

We use a couple of DS4800s with HP servers, rp and rx. We did not buy anything special as far as FC HBAs, we put in the HP brand that was available at the time we purchased the server. I can look on Monday which model cards we have.

As for drivers, the HP-UX drivers for the card are more than enough. The DS4800 works quite happily with LVM (pv-links).

IBM provides a utility that you run to get the UNIX dev paths for each of the LUNs so that you use the right paths for primary and alternate in LVM.

IBM also provides management software for the DS4800 for windows and HP-UX (and other OSes) to manage the DS4800 with.

Re: DS4800 and rp7410 and rx7640?

We use the A6795A for the rp servers (rp54xx/L3000, rp7420, rp4440) and the AB378B, AB379B (1Port, 2Port) for the rx servers (rx7640, rx8640).

For the fabric we use brocades and IBM label brocades.
