Deactivate cpu

I have an rp8420 running hpux 11.11. I recently removed an npar (1) and assigned it's resources to npar 0. Is it possible to deactivate just the 2 cpu's and have the remainder of the resources (RAM, disk etc...) remain. This is the output from parstatus -C.

parstatus -C
[Cell]
CPU Memory Use
OK/ (GB) Core On
Hardware Actual Deconf/ OK/ Cell Next Par
Location Usage Max Deconf Connected To Capable Boot Num
========== ============ ======= ========= =================== ======= ==== ===
cab0,cell0 active core 6/0/8 24.0/ 0.0 cab0,bay0,chassis0 yes yes 0
cab0,cell1 active base 2/0/8 8.0/ 0.0 cab0,bay0,chassis1 yes yes 0
cab0,cell2 absent - - - - - -
cab0,cell3 absent - - - - - -
Thanks

Re: Deactivate cpu

I don't understand the question.

If you assign the cell to the existing nPar it will be part of this nPar.

If you need the resources for another nPar, you should not assign the cell to nPar0.

What you want to achieve by deactivating the CPU?

Hope this helps!

Re: Deactivate cpu

Hi Bob

You can't do that, this is nPar and nPar is cellbased partitioning. You can add or delete complete cells

Re: Deactivate cpu

Thanks. The reason was that the software running on this server is priced per cpu and we wanted to de-activate 2 of the cpu's. Guess I'll need to reassign the entire cell.

Re: Deactivate cpu

Try this:

stop boot and go to the config menu

CPUconfig [] [ON|OFF] Config/Deconfig processor

Hope this helps!
