Determining the number of Physical CPU's installed

Hi,

with the onslaught of dual core processors. How do you determine from the OS how many physical socketed CPU's are installed in an Server runing HPUX 11.11 or any flavour of HPUX

i.e. my RP4440 has two physical 8900 cpu's but shows 4 from a top or ioscan command.

Since I work remotely from the server, I can't lift the lid and check?

Your help appreciated.

# echo "selclass qualifier cpu;info;wait;infolog" | cstm > /tmp/cpuinfo

Hi,

That utility looks good and provides a lot of info. However, I used it on my RP4440 and it seemed to suggest I still have 4 CPU's. (The same info "ioscan -C processor" returns) The only possible clue to the no. of cpu's from this info returned from cstm seems to be the serial number appears the same for two seperate CPU Paths. Is it this particular piece of info that confirms the number of Physical CPU modules installed? Or is there something more obvious that I'm not recognising?

Steve, your system always has dual core CPUs.

But, more generally, if you read the output from the info tool carefully, you will see an information like:

CPU 0, slot 0
CPU 1, slot 0

2 CPUs in only one slot - must be a dual core.

Hey, your right I did miss that.

Just for info, we have a mix of non dual core and dual core HPUX servers. But the problem I have is with licensing for applications. Some license on a per socketed CPU basis, so our server spreadsheet needs to be accuarate or we could end up paying too much for specific licenses.

If HPUX dev are looking at this, isn't it about time you chaps provided a UNIX command for admin peeps to check what physical CPU's are installed?

Its easy for PA-RISC systems, PA-8800 and PA-8900 are dual core.
All previous are single core.
