Difference between PA-RISC and Itanium Servers

Hi All,

I recently went to an interview and he asked me a very simple question. I had very little idea on the subject and couldn't answer him properly. I tried to google it, but I couldn't get a satisfactory answer. So, here goes nothing.

Ques : What are the differences between PA-RSIC & Integrity Server? And why did HP moved away from PA-RISC to a different architecture altogether?

The only difference I know is that Integrity servers can host Windows as well as RHEL OS as well and PA-RSIC cannot.

Any input is really appreciated.

Regards,

Ashutosh Singh

Unless you're working on a MBA and looking into historical business decisions, this is a moot issue.

Because PA-RISC was getting to a point where it was too expensive to get it to run faster.

The latest has 8 cores but PA-RISC only had 2

Support for OS other than HP-UX, NonStop or OpenVMS were dropped some time ago.

Re: Difference between PA-RISC and Integrity Servers

First, thanks Lisa198503 for moving this thread to the appropriate section and thank you Dennis for the reply.

Second, I now understand the differences. The decision to move from PA-RISC to Itanium was a business decision for HP. But, I didn't know that the support for Windows & RHEL OS were dropped. The wikipedia page for the Integrity servers still says that those OS are indeed supported. Can you please clarify this.

Thanks,

Please read the wiki again:
