Disable 2 of 4 CPUs in rp8400

Hi,

Is it able to disable/enable 2 of 4 CPUs in a rp8400 machine ? Because I want to use 2 at day time and use 4 at night to perform some loading test.

Regards,
Patrick

yes this can be done.
one way is to use the gsp and config menus to dsable 2 cpu's at next boot, and then reboot the box.

Re: Disable 2 of 4 CPUs in rp8400

I couldn't find online docs specific to an rp8400 for this, but the interfaces and procedures are the same as for a Superdome.

First you need to shut down the system and get to the BCH prompt on the console. You will need to login to the service processor, access the console for the partition of interest via the "CO" command, login as root and shutdown the system. If your system is set to autoboot, you will have to hit a key within 10 seconds after the reset is complete to avoid booting again.

at the BCH prompt, enter co to access the COnfiguration menu:

Main Menu: Enter command or menu > co

from the configuration menu, you can use the CPU command to display cpu configuration information and enable and disable individual cpu:

Configuration Menu: Enter command > cpu 0 3 off

with the above command I have disabled cpu 3 in cell 0.

After enabling/disabling processors, you will need to reset the partition with the BCH reboot command:

Configuration Menu: Enter command > reboot
Rebooting the partition ...

Accessing BCH is described in the Administration for nPartitions Guide in the chapter titled
"Using Console and Service Processor Interfaces":

http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/B2355-90752/B2355-90752.html

BCH commands are described in the Superdome PDC interface doc:
