Do rp7400 or rp 5400 series server support Linux..

Will rp7410 or rp5400 series servers run Linux? I know there is no out-of-box support for Linux on these plateform...but may be with HW/SW upgrade etc...anybody any ideas?

Thanks
Khalid

Re: Do rp7400 or rp 5400 series server support Linux..

Only the rx series support Linux.

Those two boxes can run pa-linux a special distribution for PA-RISC. That is going into a small world without adequate support. Both of those series can have a system board replacement and become Itanium class boxes, I believe.

Itamnium runs HP-UX,Windows,64 bit Linux.
PA-RISC runs HP-UX.

Re: Do rp7400 or rp 5400 series server support Linux..

Hi Khalid,

support can only be delivered by persons or organisations (f.e. a company like HP) ;-)

OK, I think you want do know : Does HP support Linux on these machines ? The answer is no.

Another interesting questions is: Is it possible to run Linux on these machines ?
rp5400: yes
rp7410: probably (I don't know)

Maybe you want to take a look on this page:

http://hwdb.parisc-linux.org/

and of cause on this:

http://www.parisc-linux.org

These pages are not from HP and HP cannot help you getting Linux running on your machines, but there is a good chance that you make it.

However, the best solution is of cause to upgrade the rp5400 to a rx5670 and the rp7410 to a rx7620 and run the (supported and definitely working) IA64 version of RedHat, SuSE or Debian Linux, but this would be a hardware upgrade.

Best regards

Thanks All,

Yes, There is an Inbox upgrade availble from HP to upgrade, rp7410 --> rx7620, and rp5400 --> rx5670.

rx5670 is going to end life cycle in early Feb next year and support RedHat Advance 2.1 server, while rx7620 support only RedHat advance 3.0 from RedHat..not sure abut other Linux..variations.

Thanks again

There is an inbox hardware upgrade available for these systems to turn them rx series with Itanium processor which would support certain type of Linux flavors.
