Entry_Init Status= -7 at boot time
Hi,
I'm trying to add additional disk on my HP9000/869/K420 system with HP-UX 11.
The disks are Seagate ST318417W, when I install them I get this error.
Boot...
Entry_Init
Status= -7
The disk is added in the lower peripheral bay for fixed hard disks (4 Fast/Wide SCSI Storage Bays)
Here's my output from ioscan -fnC disk(without the new one obviously). P.S.: There is already a disk install in that bay and its disk ST32171W.
root [/]ioscan -fnC disk
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description

disk 5 10/12/5.2.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE TOSHIBA CD-ROM XM-5701

Does someone have a solution for me. Thanks

Re: Entry_Init Status= -7 at boot time
I believe that error comes when there is no bootable code (ISL) on the default boot path stored on EEPROM.
Interupt the boot (you get 10secs) and issue an SEA IPL
this will report which disk is bootable. You probably just want to reinstall so boot from the cdrom h/w path
# lvlnboot -v
Boot Definitions for Volume Group /dev/vg00:
Physical Volumes belonging in Root Volume Group:
/dev/dsk/c1t15d0 (0/0/1/1.15.0) -- Boot Disk
Boot: lvol1 on: /dev/dsk/c1t15d0
Root: lvol3 on: /dev/dsk/c1t15d0
Swap: lvol2 on: /dev/dsk/c1t15d0
Dump: lvol2 on: /dev/dsk/c1t15d0, 0
kibo(root) /debug
# setboot
Primary bootpath : 0/0/1/1.15.0
Alternate bootpath : 0/0/2/1.15.0
Autoboot is OFF (disabled)
Autosearch is ON (enabled)
kibo(root) /debug

Re: Entry_Init Status= -7 at boot time
Hi Denis,
Have a look at this thread,

Hope this helps. Looks like the disk you are adding is not getting initialised.
thanks

Re: Entry_Init Status= -7 at boot time
Hi
Your problem almost certainly is that the ST318417W is an Ultra SCSI disk not a Fast Wide like the rest of your drives.
I have just gone through a similar problem with hot plug drives in a HASS (A3311A). The later 18Gb/36Gb HASS compatible drives are LVD SCSI units and the sleds are fitted with an adapter that converts the Fast Wide bus signals to LVD/SE.
To get LVD disks to run in the K you would need to fit an adaptor between the FWD bus and the peripheral bays - totally invalidating your support contract or fit an external convertor unit.
Can I suggest that you invest in a FWD SCSI to LVD adapter unit ( Paralan Corporation do one ) and an external drive enclosure to house your drives.
Good Luck.
