FAILING K360

I have an unsupported K360 failing at boot up.
I need to get into sp mode to disable the processor 0, I believe this is failing. How can I get to the menu to disable the processor. I do a cntrl+b and SP, SP is a no go. Running 11.0.

Re: FAILING K360

Try to remove this CPU from the system!

Well, I found this doc in TKB..
. a. Interrupt the boot process, and get to the PDC Main Menu by
answering N for no to the questions about booting from primary
and alternate boot paths.

b. Select the Configuration Menu by typing: CO

c. Disable processor 1 (the second processor) by typing:

PR 1 OFF

d. Enable it at a later stage by typing:

PR 1 ON

(Never turn processor 0 off)

2. To improve system performance, use the following information:

Kernel parameters: fs_async set to 1
nbuf
bufpage

Filesystem parameters: use 'tunefs' on an unmounted filesystem.

To tune the root filesystem, boot into maintenance mode by typing:

ISL> hpux -lm (;0)/hp-ux

No filesystem is put on a raw partition so only kernel parameters
will affect a raw partition.

Good luck,

Re: FAILING K360

Hi,

I don't think you can disable the processor on k360. Can't remember. Even if you could, you cannot disable processor 0. Replacement is the only choice.

Hope this helps.

Re: FAILING K360

If it's processor 0 then I think you have no luck...!

never get to the boot. Systems gets a FLT during io,memory and cpu scan.

Re: FAILING K360

Hi,

If you have at least two CPUs you could swap 0 and 1, and then disable 1.

Re: FAILING K360

If I recall correctly processor 0 is the monarch processor and you can't boot without it.

If it is truly failing, the I think your best bet is to pull processor 0 out, then move the next highest numbered processor to processor 0 (if you have 4 CPUs, move processor 3 to processor 0 slot).

Then try to boot the machine again.

Re: FAILING K360

Hi,

what is the FLT code on the display panel?.

Re: FAILING K360

Without root privelage to access the kernel you could ask your admin to provide restricted SAM access to the SAM performance section. All info is provided under the properties section.

Re: FAILING K360

Hi Robert

Processor 0 can not be disabled.

Suggest following:

1. Swap next higher processor to processor 0 slot and then disable it in new slot. You can go to SER (service) menu at IPL>CO>SER to select the processor to disable

2. Take the suspected processor out of server and replace with highest slot one.
