FIRMWARE UPDATE for RP7420

Somewhere I saw a chart for upgrading firmware on HPUX servers, does anybody know where I can find one online?
Specifically we are planning on upgrading the firmware from 3.0 to 4.2 and I want to know if this can be done all in one load by installing 4.2, or does it need to be done in increments? That's where the chart would come in handy.

Do the Patch Assessment Tool here;

http://www11.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/assessSystemsPage.do?BC=main|

It should list the latest firmware (PDC?) for your machine and all the dependencies needed.

I wish I could do that, maybe our customer can, but we are a 3rd party maintenance company so I dont have access to that page without a support contract :(

Re: FIRMWARE UPDATE for RP7420

hi,

I dont know of a chart that lists what steps to do the firmware updates in.

Download the firmware and unzip it and get the installation instructions, they have alot more detail than the quick release notes on the web.
do the same all the version in between to be sure.

download them from here

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=2512350&swItem=pf-82060-1&prodNameId=392498&swEnvOID=7&swLang=13&taskId=135&mode=5

but a quick look in the 4.2 notes

CAUTION: When updating from a version prior to 3.2, read the version 3.2 release notes carefully. Failure to update FPGAs with 48V power on, followed by updating Firmware files with 48V power off may place your system in an unrecoverable state!

So I guess you have a least one to do the middle.

Re: FIRMWARE UPDATE for RP7420

The firmware consists of many different components, the latest notes does only discuss the latest changes, but not all.

The earlier releases have more changes than the latest.

For this reason you should review even the older release notes!

Hope this helps!
