Firmware update alternative to tape drive

Hi there,

Is there an alternative to updating firmware by booting from another device, ie. CD-ROM, other than a tape drive (HP described method) ?

I have a workstation I would like to update the firmware on, have a bootable CD-ROM installed, but no tape drive handy. Is it possible to dd the patch file and burn onto CD-ROM from a PC with Windows and burner installed ? Then boot from this CD ?

Thanks.
Rob.

Re: Firmware update alternative to tape drive

Now you can update the PDC firmware using patches via swinstall.

check the CD's.

What is the model of your server.
Latest servers N class and L-class have patches to upgrade the PDC.

Re: Firmware update alternative to tape drive

Hi folks. I too am wondering if I can burn a CD in order to do PDC firmware updates.

In my case, I have a J2240 and a C200, both at home with no service contract, and no tape drive.

It does not appear that these firmware images are available in swinstall depot format.

Is there a procedure/tips for extracting the firmware images and burning to CD, instead of tape? (Preferably doing the CD burning from Windows)
