Firmware upgrade for rp2470 Server
I have 2 servers one live and one still in test. When loading the os (HP_UX 11i) the test server crashes while changing settings. After trying to track why I have found that the GSP firmware is at C0.02.02. The working one is at C.02.12. I would like to bring the other up to this revision.
I read all I could find on this. I have downloaded the files on a Windows PC. From there I have tried to unpack them on the windows PC and then ftp all files up to the server. Chsum test fails. I have tried to ftp the .tar and .gz files to server and unpack them there. The check sum fails. I have tried to download them again with the same checksum results in the end. Everything else looks straight forward. I am using a crossover cable to attach the lan console port to the lan port of the test server. I am able to ping the server.
I also do not have the Console Driver Patch, and the INSF Patch. Not sure how to check for them, or where to get them to install them if I need them. The files look the same in both the windows machine and the Unix server.
Do I have the right files, where can I get the patches? Would it be OK to move forward without the patches and with a bad checksum? Unsure what to do next?
Thanks for your help.

Re: Firmware upgrade for rp2470 Server
the current PDC firmware version for your server is 43.50, included in offline patch PF_CHAW4350.
The current version for GSP is C.02.14.
(PF_CHARGSPC0214)
I quote the Installation Instructions:
"Warning:If the currently installed firmware is older than C.02.10 then updating to GSP firmware revision C.02.14 requires updating to C.02.10 first."
You need to upgrade to C.02.10 first!
This is PF_CHARGSPC0210.
Be sure to read the instructions carefully!
You need to do 3 steps:
1. Update to version UPDATEONLY
(included in C.02.10)
2. Update to version C.02.10
3. Update to version C.02.14
!!! Always read and follow the instructions !!!
Good luck!
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Firmware upgrade for rp2470 Server
You will need for 11.11:
PHNE_32616 and PHCO_32202.
Find all patches here:
www.itrc.com -> patch database
and do a search with the patchnames provided.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Firmware upgrade for rp2470 Server
You may use the ftp server running on the OS. The GSP is checking the checksum again during the upgrade.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Firmware upgrade for rp2470 Server
After ftp the server, use the bin mode (ftp> bin), and transfer the file.

Re: Firmware upgrade for rp2470 Server
While reloading the O/S in advanced mode, after a little time it comes back with a message to type Control B to take you to GSP Configuration.
It use to put some Error numbers below that with Consout. It does not do that anymore, but it still jumps into the ctrl B message and redraws the screen so you can not read anything on it.
Thanks for all your help.

Re: Firmware upgrade for rp2470 Server
The C.02.10 is here:
ftp://192.151.52.14/superseded_patches/firmware_patches/hp/cpu/PF_CHARGSPC0210.tar.gz
The C.02.12 is here:
ftp://192.151.52.14/superseded_patches/firmware_patches/hp/cpu/PF_CHARGSPC0212.tar.gz
The C.02.14 is here:
ftp://192.151.52.14/firmware_patches/hp/cpu/PF_CHARGSPC0214.tar.gz
when you FTP the files, make sure you go into binary mode at all times - use the 'binary' or 'bin' command in your ftp client.

Re: Firmware upgrade for rp2470 Server
Main Menu: Enter command or menu > in all
and you will find an information like
FIRMWARE INFORMATION
....Firmware Version:..........43.50
among the lines. You will find the current firmware in patch PF_CHAW4350.
The GSP message indicates an error or warning. Somebody have to analyze it.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
