G40 Change System Unique Identifier (SUID)

Can you change the 'system unique identifier' number
It will be for a G40 board, very old bit of kit but the customer needs this doing in order to self support the server
thanks

Re: G40 Change System Unique Identifier (SUID)

Hi,

I think it should be possible, but it needs to be done by a HP rep. If i am correct you need a passwd in order to change this.

Re: G40 Change System Unique Identifier (SUID)

The call has already been placed and we are awaiting an answer from HP.
If they decide that they will do this it will probably be chargeable work!!

Re: G40 Change System Unique Identifier (SUID)

They might claim that they can't but they CAN because we used to have it done all the time. Of course the G's aren't supported any more, so expect a hefty bill! It would probably be cheaper to purchase an A-class server on the used market.

Re: G40 Change System Unique Identifier (SUID)

Every HP 9000 server has a unique identifier which is protected by HP from being cloned. As you might expect, many software packages are licensed to a single server and vendors rely on HP to enforce this uniqueness. It will be a chargeable service call and will require a reboot.
