GSP FIRMWARE UPGRADE WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL

Current: Firmware Revision X.17.04

Required or attempting to be on: B.02.15

Tried XD - successful! (ping tests/lan access - PASS, GSP RESET was also successful!)

XU - the server where the PF file has been TARed is on the SAME SUBNET MASK/gateway.

But, error right away appears:
GSP FIRMWARE UPGRADE WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL
PLEASE CHECK YOUR PARAMETERS. TRY AGAIN.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Ravi.

Re: GSP FIRMWARE UPGRADE WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL

Firmware files and procedures are sometimes unique to a server model and you did not mention your model ...

Hope this helps!

Re: GSP FIRMWARE UPGRADE WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL

The old firmware revision X.17.04 suggests you may have a very old GSP hardware revision (revision A instead of revision B).

What's the model of the server you're trying to upgrade? Maybe the B.xx.yy firmware series is not correct for your hardware: you might need the older A.xx.yy firmware.

(I think some of our old N4000 servers had an original GSP firmware of X.some.thing. If I recall correctly, the A.xx.yy firmware series was the correct update for them.)

An "ioscan -fnCtty" listing could be used to confirm your GSP hardware revision (A or B) and allow you to choose the correct firmware.

The installation procedure for the B.02.15 firmware is special: have you read the installation instructions carefully?

There are actually two firmwares, one UpdateOnly firmware and the real B.02.15 firmware. You must first upgrade to the UpdateOnly firmware, let the GSP restart itself and then upgrade to the real B.02.15.

If you got the link to B.02.15 from the installation instructions of B.02.21 or newer firmware, please see:
ftp://us-ffs.external.hp.com/superseded_patches/firmware_patches/hp/cpu/PF_CCANGSPB0215.txt
for original installation instructions for B.02.15.

See my answer at the end of this thread if you need the A type firmware:

Re: GSP FIRMWARE UPGRADE WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL

The version X.17.04 was maybe the very first release of firmware for the revision A GSP.

The B version is not compatible - you need firmware for rev. A.

firmware:

Hope this helps!

Re: GSP FIRMWARE UPGRADE WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL

BTW, if your GSP firmware is this old, you should check the servers firmware too.

ftp://ftp.itrc.hp.com/firmware_patches/hp/cpu/PF_CPIW4343.txt

ftp://ftp.itrc.hp.com/firmware_patches/hp/cpu/PF_CPIW4343.tar.gz

There is also a patch format available.

Hope this helps!

Re: GSP FIRMWARE UPGRADE WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL

Torsten,
Thank you! I will assign points.

I was able to upgrade upto A.01.12. But, on the firmware patches website, B.02.15 seems to be compatible with RP7400 (n-class servers). But, the GSP firmware upgrade fails saying that the update file set is not found or something like that in the directory.

b.t.w, my PDC Firmware Revision: 43.43. (from 'cstm')

Thanks!
Ravi.

Re: GSP FIRMWARE UPGRADE WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL

ravi,

Just to make it clear for you, it depends upon the revision of the n4000 as to whether its actually an RP7400 or not?

If its an A3639A its N4000
If its an A3639B its N4000
If its an A3639C its N4000 and renamed RP7400

You probably have an A3639A/B which is still an N4000 and has the A revision GSP and updates are only available now for the newer C version, or now known as RP7400 which has the B revision GSP.

If you have the A.01.12 then thats the latest you can go for your server.

Re: GSP FIRMWARE UPGRADE WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL

... in other words:
GSP A and B are different hardware on different core I/O boards.
You have the older board installed.

Hope this helps!
