Garbage charactors on MP console - Not getting login prompt

Hi All,

We have a SD16K-A server running with 11.11.

I am getting the following messages on MP console and not getting the console login prompt.

The above messages keep on coming. Anyone knows what does that message means and how to rectify it to get the console login prompt.

Do you connect serial or via lan?

Maybe you are using another emulation than another, parallel session (e.g. vt100 vs. hpterm) and a application is already drawing the screen (e.g. SAM).

I am connecting through lan. How to trace if any application drawing the screen?

Login to the system (not via MP) and use "ps" to find an application running on console.

the "busy .. wait" messages look like if someone is running something there.

In fact, busy/wait, looks like the system is booting.

I would assume the MP will ask you what terminal emulation are you using:

Select terminal type:
[1] hpterm, 70092, 70094, 2392
2 vt100, vt220, ansii, xterm


What emulation is it?
What application do you run (on your PC)?

The system has been booted and it is up and running for quit some time.

I am using putty to connect to MP. I suspect some application is dumping these messages to the console since I could see some processes are using console by using "ps -ef |grep console". Is there a way to find out which process is pumping these messages to the console and kill that process?

What do you get from ps?

I think you have a terminal emulation mismatch (putty with xterm/vt100 vs. hpterm setting in the MP) and the system is still in the boot process, because rc scripts are still running.

What is your last entry in /etc/rc.log?

Something like
"HP-UX run-level transition completed"?
