H60 reboots on its on but no error logs

Can't figure out why our H60 would reboot on it's own. Tested memory, CPU, and root hdd via STM, all come back ok. There's no chassis codes. Have already replaced power supplies. Can't figure out if there's a hardware or software problem. Any suggestions?

Re: H60 reboots on its on but no error logs

How is your system rebooting? Does it appear to be shutting down like you issued a shutdown, or is it resetting like you hit the power switch? Is it panicing and producing a core file under /var/adm/crash?

Check out /var/adm/shutdownlog to see what that says.

At what point does the reboot happen?? Has the kernel been loaded??

Re: H60 reboots on its on but no error logs

Var/adm/crash has image.1.1 to .1.8 files with an index. Var/adm/shutdownlog has reboots including one that says Reboot after panic: TOC, pcsq.pcoq = 0.c97f4, isr.ior = 0.332f06c.

Ken,
The server reboots randomly. About once every other day.

If you have a crash dump I would suggest calling HP and having then go throught the dump to figure out what the culprit is.

Re: H60 reboots on its on but no error logs

There will never be a log created when the system crashes (panics). That's because the opsystem has halted, so nothing can be written. The only file that will be of use is /etc/shutdownlog, but only if you have created /var/adm/crash and did not disable crash dump capability in /etc/rc.config.d/savecrash.

Shutdownlog writes the panic message during reboot and since there was no message about HPMC (a hardware error code), the problem is VERY likely due to a lack of patches. It will be virtually impossible to determine which patch(es) will fix this particular problem without help from HP. If that is not an option, then download and install the latest SupportPlus patch bundles (HWE and QPK). Note that if this is 10.20, that version (and all earlier versions) are obsolete and no longer supported. The H60 will run 11.0 (which is supported).
