HASS (a3312a) and rp24x0 systems

Hello,

I currently have a hp 9000 d260 system which has two a3312a storage enclosures connected to it. The d260 is old and is running hp-ux 10.20 so I would like to move the two storage enclosures to one of my other systems.

One other system is a rp2470. It is running hp-ux 11.0.
Another system is a rp2450. It is running hp-ux 11.11.

I guess the first question is, can the storage arrays be connect to any of my rp24x0 systems?
If it is then the second question is, what do I need to obtain or configure to make this happen.

I'd appreciate any info on this, even if it is to say that it cannot be done.

Thanks,
Demetri.

Re: HASS (a3312a) and rp24x0 systems

Demetri,

Here is the info I have:
A3312A is supported on 11.00 on A400/A500, L-class (rp54xx), n4000 and v-class.
It is supported on 11i on A400/A500, L-Class(rp54xx), n4000, V-Class, rp8400, rp7410 and Superdome.
Note that rp24xx are A-class, so you should be able to connect your storage to your systems.
In your server, you can use the FC cards A5149A or A5150A on both OSes, and you can also use A5159A or A5159B on 11i.

Re: HASS (a3312a) and rp24x0 systems

Hi,
Upto my knowledge A3312A is (also known as Jamaica storage)using either Single ended or Diferential SCSI interface(note: Both are HVD).
D260 systems don't have support for any LVD interface, so disks might be either SE or Differential.

Rp2470/Rp2450, there is no default Diffential interface. If you connect this HVD disks to LVD interface on Rp2470, it may get damaged!
You must have HVD SCSI interface (A4800A) on Rp24xx in order to connect the A3312A storage.

Always take care of LVD/HVD devices. Never mix them. It's not that if the connector matches you can connect!!

Re: HASS (a3312a) and rp24x0 systems

Thank you both for the information.
It was more than what I started with.

I'll look into the costs and I'll be cautious before I attempt to hook up the HASS to any of my rp24x0 systems.

Thanks again,
Demetri.

Hi Demetri, in addition the A4800A PCI Single port FWD SCSI-2 interface that you need to connect the RP box to the A3312A arrays, you can also use a A5159A PCI Dual port FWD SCSI-2 interface. You can usually find these cards for around 50 to 100 bucks on the used mark

Jesse, Dimitri,

A5159A is no longer on CPL, but A5159B is very similar and available for purchase from HP. A5159B is very similar to A5159A or A4800A. It is dual-port too with two VHDCI 68-pin external connectors.
