HP 9000 807s
Hi,
I just inherited an old HP 9000 807s server. I wanted to try and use it for something (anything, really), but I can't find any useful information on the Internet pertaining to this model. Does anyone out there know where I can find some information or docs? Anything would be appreciated.
Thanks
Scott
PS. It appears to be running HP-UX 8.02 with 16Mb of RAM and 2Gb of disk space.

Re: HP 9000 807s
There is not a whole lot you can do with that system anymore. HP-UX 8.02 is probably 10+ years old. HP-UX is currently on version 11.11. HP-UX 8.02 hasn't been supported for a number of years.
This machine has the capability to run HP-UX 10.20, which is still a supported release, but with the 2GB disk and 16 MB RAM, you won't have much room for anything else. That amount of RAM may not even support 10.20.
This would be a good machine for you to use as a test machine, or to familiarize yourself with HP-UX, if you don't already know it.

Re: HP 9000 807s
I acquired an 807s a couple of years back to teach myself HP/UX. It too had 16MB RAM but only 650MB of hard disk. I installed a CD drive, LAN adapter and upgraded to a "huge" 1.3GB disk. With that, I was able to install HP/UX 10.20 though it took over 12 hours to complete ! I can actually run 10.20, though performance is not what I would call good. Running SAM with X to a remote X-Server is teaches one the virtue of patience... Believe it or not, HP/UX 11.0 is supported on the 807s but it needs at least 32MB RAM, so in reality it won't install.
So, if you have a CD drive and access to 10.20 media it might be worthwhile using the box to play around. I would not suggest spending too much money on upgrades and the like.
Good luck and have fun !
