HP 9000 D Class model D370

I have an HP 9000 D Class server that the console died. I noticed the server has EISA slots ans ps-2 ports for mouse and keyboard but my question how get a EISA video card and a keyoard to work. I put an old ISA card and plugged a standard keyboard and nothing works. If i telnet into the machine i can see that it booted and is up and running but nothing is on the screen nor does the lights on the keyboard work. I'm new to Unix so i may sound stupid. I want to be able to use a standard monitor and keyboard so i don't have to purchase a new console. Any ideas would be great.

These D Class servers do not accept just any old Eisa Graphics cards. You are required to install specially made HP UX Based Graphics Adapters in these servers. This graphics card part number is A4450A, and is designed specifically for D Class Servers, from D200-D390/2 servers. If using the Console works, this might be your cheapest solution where 700/96 Terminals are about $150.00 and the graphics cards are $550.00. If you have a PC around that you aren't using, you can use the HyperTerminal Session connected through your Serial ports to use this PC as your terminal.

You do not need graphics card to have 'console' access. Unplug PS2 devices (kbd and mouse), and plug null modem cable connected to the w2k host running hyperterminal (9600/8/n/1) to serial port 1. Emulation could be VT100 or HPTERM.
Do not insert non-hpux cards. They will not work as soon as have hpux-incompatible IODC (BIOS)

Another option is to download qcterm. Run and set the connection to telnet, use Vt100 and everything should be great. I use Windows XP through the network to control the HP box as well as my Linux server.

I would like to install Gentoo linux's hp build. I take it I will need a console to perform an operating system install. haha I can't do this through the console with tenet or hyperterm right and a null modem right ? Thanks -Mike.
