Re: HP 9000 D class
You can connect a null modem cable from the serial of the laptop to the console of the system. Then use hypertermianl to connect. You may need a usb to serial adapter to make this work.
You could also connect the D box to a network.

Re: HP 9000 D class
If you want to connect directly to the D class box
disconnect the monitor from the system
connect a null modom cable between your laptop and the d class system console port (the monitor port)
If you want to connect it to the network, and there is a working monitor (and network connection), simply bring the box up and run the set_parms to configure the system
If you want to connect to a network and there is no monitor, perform the steps listed above sequencially.

SolutionI also use Windows XP HyperTerminal to set up a terminal.
1. Emulation = VT100
2. Baud rate = 9600 (Bits per second)
3. Data bits 8
4. Parity = None
5. Stop bits = 1
6. Flow Control = None
Hope this helps,
GBR
