Re: HP 9000 L-Class rebooting at will

There are several ways to invoke it...

Here's a quick start guide:

Re: HP 9000 L-Class rebooting at will

Thanks Robert, CNB, I ran the cstm utility and the only errors were the bus errors, when I started pulling disks. I moved my mirrored disk to a new slot. i.e. A1 to B1. My current boot drive is in A0...

Since I have moved/recreated the mirror drive, I havent seen any random reboots yet...

saw this in the error history:
Chassis Code Encoded Field : 0x00000760860014f0
Alert Level : 6 (Boot possible pending failure - action required
(e.g. boot disk error rate above threshold, power failure, overtemp
medium).)

Source FRU Detail : 6 (disk)
Source ID : 0 (platform dependent)
Event Detail : 0 (no problem detail )
Caller Activity : 1 (test)

Re: HP 9000 L-Class rebooting at will

my raw errlog showed the following, note the 2012 date is because I moved the clock ahead to do some timestamp testing...

This log seems to indicate I've taken 226 I/O errors? I wonder if my boot disk, is bad news...

# cat output1
.... acp : 10.0.56.75 ....

Re: HP 9000 L-Class rebooting at will

Viewing the detailed report will give you a better idea regarding the actual date and times of the events.

I can note the following though:

Number of I/O Error entries: 226

Device paths for which entries exist:
(208) 0/0/2/0.0.0

Products for which entries exist:
(203) HP36.4GST336753LC

If you can determine that there were a lot of recent events, then this disk may indeed be suspect.

Typically a problematic disk gives you other errors or even hangs the system, but who knows?

Re: HP 9000 L-Class rebooting at will

Yes, agreed.

Take a look at the Non-medium error counts on that device. You may want to benchmark the counts to see the rate of increase.

Re: HP 9000 L-Class rebooting at will

Since I moved the mirrored disk, things have been behaving, no random reboots.

Of interest, I shut down the machine over the
weekend and pulled the plug.
Today when I put the plug back in, and later hit the power-up button, the machine would try to come up and then it would shut-down.

I tried this a couple of times and it always did the same thing.

I eventually held the button in the whole time it was booting, and finally got it to boot up.

Thoughts?

Re: HP 9000 L-Class rebooting at will

Hi,

You'll need to check the GSP logs to see which messages were being logged when it wouldn't stay up.

Re: HP 9000 L-Class rebooting at will

The power switch button can be tricky on these systems. Ive seen a few replaced due to problems. I almost always use the GSP (PC command) to power up and down these servers now.
